REHABILITATION DUMP SITES

In order to decrease adverse environmental effects of solid wastes, closing and rehabilitation of former waste disposal areas where wastes are stored randomly have a particular importance together with establishment of sanitary landfills. In our country, almost each municipality has an unsanitary disposal area. These areas pollute the soil, underground and surface water resources and affect human health in a negative way and causes visual pollution. Furthermore, entrapped gas causes explosions from time to time. Closing projects of such areas should be evaluated under the solid waste management system and must be conducted in parallel with sanitary landfill works. These areas should be transformed into promenade and recreation parks.
